Hradec Kralové, Pardubice · a public tip, added 3. 6. 2026

The rivalry emerged as early as the beginning of the 16th century with the arrival of the Pernštejn family to the Pardubice estate. It gained new momentum in the era of the Czech National Revival and continued until the Nazi occupation. It flared up again in the 1950s in the form of the socialist labour competition "Hradec or Pardubice, who will give more to the republic?" It lives on to this day, albeit now only in the form of sporting rivalry, but also in everyday oral tradition. The rivalry between the inhabitants of Hradec Králové and Pardubice is alive, has a community of bearers, contributes to the formation of local identity and helps shape the distinctive character of the East Bohemian urban agglomerations. The topic will now be explored by Czech Television, which is conducting initial research.
