Amateur theatre in the Hradec Králové Region has a tradition of more than two hundred years. Since the Czech national revival it has been one of the defining features of cultural life in towns and villages alike, and a dense network of amateur companies grew up here, many still performing today. At its heart is the voluntary, shared making of theatre, which brings the generations together; dozens of companies regularly stage productions, take part in festivals and pass their experience on to younger members.
