České vodáctví – sociokulturní fenomén pobytu v přírodě spojený se splouváním vodních toků
Czech river paddling is much more than canoeing down a river: it is a culture of its own, joining time spent outdoors, sport, friendship and respect for the river. Its roots reach back to the early twentieth century, closely tied to scouting, the Sokol movement and Czech tramping. In the region the paddling life centres on the Orlice, the Elbe, the Metuje and the Úpa, where clubs pass their experience on to younger generations — together with unwritten rules of mutual help, a language, songs and rituals of their own shared around the campfire.
