East Bohemian puppetry

Východočeské loutkářství

East Bohemian puppetry is one of the most important traditions of Czech theatre and has shaped the cultural life of the region for more than two hundred and fifty years, ever since the first Czech travelling marionette players. It joins puppet making, wood carving, visual art, writing and performance itself. Alongside professional stages such as the world-renowned DRAK Theatre in Hradec Králové, dozens of amateur companies keep puppetry alive; the Museum of Puppetry Cultures in Chrudim and the Loutkářská Chrudim festival underline the region's standing.
