Making printing blocks for blueprint

Výroba forem na modrotisk

The making of printing blocks is an exceptionally rare craft that underpins traditional blueprint, the indigo resist dyeing of cloth. It continues a tradition of more than two hundred years of block makers who cut wooden, combined or metal blocks by hand for printing characteristic patterns on fabric. Today the craft is among the most endangered traditional techniques: in the whole of the Czech Republic it rests with only a handful of bearers, who pass their knowledge on in cooperation with blueprint workshops, museums and contemporary artists.
